International Symposium on Engineering Education and Evaluation Osaka, Japan – November 1996

I presented an updated version of my talk titled “The Synthesis Coalition: Information Technologies Enabling a Paradigm Shift in Engineering Education,” co-authored with William H. Wood III.

The symposium was co-sponsored by the Japanese Ministry of Education and the U.S. National Science Foundation. The organizers were Prof. Gretchen Kalonji from the University of Washington and Prof.I. Ohnaka from Osaka. The purpose was to exchange information on education reform and assessment and develop a plan for continued collaboration.

I was able to arrive a day earlier (Sunday) to explore the neighboring historical town of Kyoto and a few Zen and Shinto temples. The Japanese maples were at their peak of Fall colors.
