In today's business world, we are faced
with a more competitive
market place than that of the previous years. With the push for
reduced design and development times and increased quality
control, more and more companies are focusing on taking
advantage of such strategies like crossfunctional teams, design
for manufacturability in their product and process
development to produce higher quality products, deliver the
products in a shorter period of time and also increase
productivity. However, to achieve these common goals for
the plant or corporation, diverse functional branches within
the corporation must work together on a daily basis to
obtain economics success. Thus, people, product and strategy
are the three key concerns in today's business world.
"People, Product, Strategy" presents several industry concepts
which must be implemented by the people to improve the
industrial processes used to make marketable products in
today's global economy. These concepts and principles include
the use of crossfunctional teams, concurrent engineering,
design for manufacture, design for
enviroment etc. All of these principles are presented because
of their potential to enhance the new product development
process in regards to the time to market and quality of the
products produced. The functional roles of the people involved
in the development process are also covered in this case study.
These roles are incorporated in the positions of managers,
accountants, financial controllers, technicians, engineers,
designers, manufacturing personnel, and human resource
personnel.
