The trip:

We spent a family vacation in New Zealand over December and January 2004-2005. The time included a few days in the North Island on the Coromandel Peninsula with the family to celebrate Christmas. We then split up and headed to the South Island and Queenstown to tramp, camp, and explore. Fortunately we also had the local guides of Beth and John Wood. The remaining days were spent travelling most of the Southern part of the South Island with trips to the great glaciers, Milford Sound and beautiful mountain lakes

North Island:

Stayed at Hahei on the Coromandel Peninsula.Visited Cathedral Cove, Hot Water Beach and the 309 road to the Kauri groves. Enjoyed Sea kayaking on Christmas Eve and swimming in the sea on Christmas day

South Island :

Started from Queenstown and Glenorchy tramping (hiking) up a part of the Routeburn track.

On to Franz Josef glacier via the Haast Pass and back South to Makarora, the Wilkins valley and Lakes Wanaka and Hawea.

To Lake Gunn South in the Egglinton valley then to Milford Sound, Key Summit (on the Routeburn again) and to Te Anau.

Lake Manapouri then South along the coast through Invercargill, Bluff the Catlin mountains, a petrified forest at Curio bay, Nugget Point to Dunedin.

To the Moeraki boulders then West to Wanaka, up the Mitukituki valley and heading back to Queenstown to fly home. Phew.
