End of Year Greetings -- 2005

from Dale Gieringer and Alice Agogino and Adrian and Arianne

Dear Friends:

A challenging year. This year took us from Ensenada and the San Diego desert to the Canadian Rockies, to New York City to visit family & friends, and on to the usual sundry business trips. We're preparing to wind up with a visit to Las Vegas, of all places, followed by a late Christmas here at home.

Adrian continues to work for NASA-AMES, helping Rocketdyne with analysis for the space shuttle. He continued his tour of islands with a visit to Roratonga.

Arianne is a junior at CPS, active in Junior Students of America. practicing guitAr, preparing for college visits, with her teeth finally liberated from braces.

Alice has had her hands full as Chair of the Academic Senate at UC Berkeley. Delighted to win a best paper award with her students on design synthesis for micromechanical systems from IEEE Robotics Society. Honored to co-chair the Chancellor's Berkeley Diversity Research Initiative. Excited about her mobile learning project.

Dale continues to be exasperated by unremitting U.S. government hostility. Disgusted by the US Supreme Court's ruling that Angel Raich's medical use of marijuana somehow involves interstate commerce. Testified at DEA headquarters against official obstruction of medical marijuana research (after being denied 10 grams by NIDA for a vaporizer study). Honored to receive NORML's Lester Grinspoon award for outstanding achievement in research and leadership in cannabis science. Desolated by the loss of three valued colleagues to suicide, disease and murder this year.

Our family finally entered the 21st century; we bought a Prius, our first new car in 8 years. It would be nice if our country followed suit and moved out of the last century. Let 2006 be a year of transition to better times for all!
